In 2006, two executives of a nationally-ranked health plan compared notes on the "health" of the current health care system and concluded it was getting increasingly difficult, if not impossible, for people to navigate this increasingly complex maze.

In 2007, they decided to do something about it, left the executive world, and founded Health Champion.

Their idea was to have a company which merged the roles of Health Care Advisors (dispensing advice on medical issues) with that of Health Care Advocates (who stand up to insurance companies and the health care system to make sure everyone gets a fair deal).

Almost overnight, consumers suddenly had to only make one phone call to find someone sympathetic to their medical problems (and armed with good advice) or someone who would stand up to the big guys and demand a fair deal.

That's Health Champion today.

Ida Schnipper, BSN, RN, MA, Founding PartnerIda Schnipper, BSN, RN, MA, Founding Partner

Ida is an award-winning nurse and health care executive with over 20 years of experience. In addition to her oncology nursing experience at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Hospital in New York, Ida led the development and execution of a member-centered health care program at ConnectiCare, a leading managed care Fortune 500 organization in Connecticut. Ida's professional experience and knowledge of the inner workings of health plans give her the necessary skills to assist clients with a wide-ranging scope of health care issues. Ida earned a Bachelor's in Nursing from Syracuse University and has an R.N. from Columbia School of Nursing. She also holds a Master's degree in Nursing from New York University.


Jay Salvio, BSN, RN, MBA, Founding Partner

Jay's experience as a cardiology nurse and a health plan executive provide him with the expertise and knowledge necessary to guide clients throughout the development, implementation and evaluation of chronic care management programs. Jay has overseen these programs and received national acclaim for identifying and controlling rising health care costs and improving the health of the targeted population. Jay earned an R.N. degree from the University of Connecticut and holds an MBA from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.


Ellen Sue Moses, BS Pharm, R.Ph, Director, Pharmacy, PartnerEllen Sue Moses, BS Pharm, R.Ph, Director, Pharmacy, Partner

Ellen Sue, a pharmacist with nearly 30 years of experience, has provided clinical support, consulting, and drug information to healthcare professionals, the pharmaceutical industry and the public in a variety of practice settings. Ellen Sue has served as a Consultant Pharmacist to nursing homes, a consultant to the pharmaceutical industry, and adjunct faculty in Clinical Toxicology at the University of New Mexico. Ellen Sue has a Bachelor's of Science in Pharmacy from the University of New Mexico, and also has completed certificate training programs sponsored by the American Pharmaceutical Association and the Society of Consulting Pharmacists in Pharmacy-Based Immunization Delivery and Delivering Medication Therapy Management (MTM) to the elderly in the Community.


Gail Bogossian, Esq., General Counsel

Gail identifies herself as a "health care executive with a legal specialty." She has practiced law in the health care arena for over 17 years, working in a variety of settings including a large national insurer, a small non-profit HMO and an entrepreneurial for-profit managed care organization. Gail partnered with Ms. Schnipper and many other members of the Health Champion team while at ConnectiCare, where they transformed the company into a nationally recognized award-winning health care organization known for its member and quality focus. Gail received her undergraduate degree from Trinity College and earned a law degree from the University of Connecticut Law School.


Merry Bajana, LCSW, Director, Patient Advocacy

Merry has over 25 years as a clinical and medical social worker. Her career has included working in a variety of health care settings including acute care hospitals, outpatient clinics and managed care organizations. Merry's experience and working knowledge of both Medicare and Medicaid programs gives her the expertise to assist Health Champion clients and their families navigate through the Medicare and Medicaid maze. Merry received her BSW degree from Southern Connecticut State College and her MSW from Adelphi University.


Margaret Adams, CCS-P, Director, Reimbursement Services

Margaret has over 20 years of experience in healthcare and has knowledge from both the provider and payor perspective. Her expertise includes practice management, provider relations, healthcare contracting and health information management reimbursement systems. Her previous experience includes positions at ConnectiCare, Aetna, and PriceWaterhouseCoopers and she is currently employed as a Business Analyst for Medicare Physician and Hospital Reimbursement. Margaret has maintained her coding certification for 12 years.
